Dead Go Fast! (LP)

New Studio Album - 2021

"On n'est pas serieux quand on a 17 ans." (When you are 17, you aren't really serious) said Rimbaud. When Vii-Pii was 17 in Paris, he had a serious band named Dead Go Fast.

Though Dead Go Fast disbanded long ago, founding member Vii-Pii recently re-recorded these old songs he had made for the band. The outcome is this ‘Dead Go Fast!’ LP: the band’s seminal French Alternative Rock / Post Punk album.

Vii-Pii was keen to retain the sounds and spirit of the original band as captured on old cassettes from live or rehearsal sessions. While re-recording the tracks, he only used soft versions of gears that the band had at the time: second-hand Roland drum machines, Korg synths and cheap guitar stomp boxes. The songs remain as they were, including the broken english lyrics and the cheerful dark energy.

Listen to famous live songs Le Cri and The Heretic: the original, crude sound of The Cure meets Beruriers Noirs, sort of. "F" was the band's idea of a love song. The final line "forgotten words, bloody words" came from the singer actually forgetting the lyrics on stage. Other songs rock more such as She UZ and Alice is playing with matches, while Lust and Hands are a bit more sophisticated. And it all ends with the girls' favourite ballad Running so blue.
